Southern University will be the Tom Joyner Foundation's "School of The Month" during November 2014. Any donation made to the Tom Joyner Foundation during November will be donated to Southern University.

Norman C. Francis, president of Xavier University of New Orleans, will be honored during the 25th Annual National Bar Association Wiley A. Branton Award and Issues Symposium hosted by Southern University Law Center, October 30-31, 2014.

American Bar Association president-elect Paulette Brown will open the symposium with a convocation address set for 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, at the Law Center, 129-130 A. A. Lenoir Hall

Every October 24, thousands of events all around the country bring Americans together to celebrate and enjoy real food and to push for improved food policies. This is a day to resolve to make changes in our diets and to take action to solve food-related problems in our communities at the local, state, and national level. The 2014, Food Day will have a special focus on food access and justice for food and farm workers.

The Southern University New Orleans (SUNO) Foundation will host its annual BASH celebration and fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, from 7-11 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans, 601 Loyola Avenue.

10/1/2014 41st Annual Bayou Classic game and event tickets on sale, 2 for $20 in October
Tickets for the 41st Annual Bayou Classic are on sale now. The Bayou Classic, the iconic collegiate gridiron matchup between Southern University and Grambling State University, will take place Saturday, November 29, 2014, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Southern University celebrated receiving the national Tree Campus recognition October 16, 2014, with the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, by planting trees during a hands-on volunteer event on the Baton Rouge campus.

10/16/2014SU Ag Center staff will travel to China to promote ag development
Five members of the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center faculty and staff will travel to China to exchange knowledge and technology in the area of World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimate with Chinese scientists and officials.

10/10/2014SU dean chosen to speak at Mandela celebration in Africa
Damien Ejigiri, dean of the Southern University Baton Rouge Graduate School, has been invited to be a keynote speaker during activities next month in Kampala, Uganda to pay tribute to the late South African President Nelson Mandela.

Southern University is continuing its effort to attract international students as it moves ahead with a program that could bring up to 30 Afro-Brazilian students to the Baton Rouge campus in the fall of 2015.

Nearly 100 students in fifth through ninth grades from Southern University Laboratory and Park Ridge Magnet Schools filed into the Southern University Seymour Gymnasium in Baton Rouge, October 8, 2014 to demonstrate the aerodynamic design of their self-propelled rockets.

10/7/2014 Kellogg grant funds SU System program to disrupt cradle-to-prison pipeline
The Southern University System Foundation recently received a $450,000 grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation for programs that will support the Five-Fifths Agenda for America's (FFAA) national project, the Honore' Center for Undergraduate Student Achievement. (HCUSA).

Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
