| 6/7/2013 | SU Alumni Federation Leadership Summit , June 7-8
The Southern University Alumni Federation will host a leadership summit, June 7-8, 2013, at Southern University New Orleans.
The two-day meeting in New Orleans replaces the 2013 national conference. The 2014 SUAF National Alumni Conference is scheduled for July 9-13, 2014, in Houston, Texas.

| 6/3/2013 | SUSLA energy camp scheduled June 3-7
Southern University Shreveport will host Energy Camp Louisiana June 3-7, 2013, at the main campus. The camp is open to all Caddo parish high school students.
The camp is designed to teach high school students about the different types of energy, energy conservation, and efficiency as well as energy-related careers. During the week-long camp, students participate in hands-on experiments, energy discussions, interactive computer games, and win prizes for "best in class" team efforts.

| 6/1/2013 | Dallas Alumni Chapter to hold 30th Bayou Bash, June 1
The Southern University Alumni Federation Dallas Chapter will host its annual Bayou Bash Scholarship Fundraiser, Saturday, June 1, 2013.
The 30th anniversary event will be held from 6 p.m. - 11 p.m. on the front lawn of the African-American Museum at the historic Fair Park grounds in South Dallas.

The Center for Rural and Small Business Development at Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center will hold a free business development seminar, "How to Start or Expand a Business," from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.,Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Brown's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 70427 Martin Luther King Jr. Highway 1050 (formerly Cole Street), in Tangipahoa.

| 5/17/2013 | La. Supreme Court chief justice to be spring SUBR commencement speaker, May 17
Bernette J. Johnson, the first African-American Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court, will be the commencement speaker at Southern University's graduation ceremonies.
Commencement begins at 10:30 a.m., on May 17, and will be held in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The SU System Bulletin begins its summer publication schedule. The online newsletter will be published biweekly until August 23, 2013.
The next issue will be published Friday, May 31, 2013.

| 5/16/2013 | Bayou Classic interns moving on in exciting new careers
Two interns with the Annual Bayou Classic, Guy-Bertrand Tamo and Rob Garland, have secured positions at FHS Legacy Corporation and the New Orleans Zephyrs, respectively, as they continue to seek new opportunities to develop professionally. Tamo and Garland helped the Bayou Classic team with growth management and event operations of the Bayou Classic.
Guy-Bertrand Tamo is now working at FHS Legacy Corporation as a software developer with a focus on quality assurance. Tamo graduated from Southern University New Orleans with a degree in Management Information Systems.

| 5/16/2013 | Togo native named chief student marshal for SUBR spring graduation
Messan D. Folivi is the chief student marshal for Southern University Baton Rouge's Spring 2013 graduating class, and will lead 714 graduates into the F.G. Clark Activity Center at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May. 17, 2013.
The native of Togo, West Africa earned the chief marshal designation because his cumulative 3.93 grade point average is the highest among his fellow spring graduates.

| 5/13/2013 | SU Ag Center launches course for faith-based leaders in Pointe Coupee Parish
The SU Ag Center has launched a series of classes for faith-Based leaders in New Roads, Pointe Coupee Parish. Dana Isaac, grant assistant for Building Opportunities through Leadership Development (BOLD), launched the initial "BOLD For Faith-Based Leaders Class" Saturday, May 4, 2013, in New Roads, attracting 13 participants.

| 5/13/2013 | SUBR junior to be student member of SU Board
Southern University Student Government Association president Simone Bray will be the next student member on the Southern University Board of Supervisors.
Bray was selected to the position by SGA presidents from the other SUS campuses --New Orleans, Shreveport, and the Law Center. Bray, elected SGA president on the Baton Rouge campus in April, will take her seat on the board at its June meeting.

| 5/11/2013 | A post-Katrina record 532 students graduate from SUNO
Southern
University New Orleans, Saturday, May 11, 2013, awarded 532 graduates
degrees in a commencement ceremony at the Kiefer Lakefront Arena. The
number of graduates represents a new high since the University reopened
following Hurricane Katrina.
Picutured
is top graduate and chief student marshal for the Sping 2013 class Gina
Maria Sceau who received her bachelor of social work degree. The New
Orleans native earned a 3.931 g.p.a.

Southern University has been nominated in six categories, including Best Marching Band, for the annual HBCU Media Awards by the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy.
Southern is nominated for Best Marching Band, Best Nursing Program, Best Student Newspaper, Male Coach of the Year, Men's Team of the Year, and Male Student of the Year.

Fifteen charter members in the
fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to
generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a
cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges
to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at
least $1,000 per year.
