6/2/2014 SU Continuing Ed to host college summer program, June 2-July 17
Southern University's Division of Continuing Education is hosting the 13th Annual College Summer Program "2014 Jaguars Kid's Camp," June 2-July 17, on the Baton Rouge campus.

The summer enrichment program, designed for campers from ages five to 12, will be held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

5/8/2014 SU Class of '64 grads to celebrate golden anniversary, May 8-9
Graduates of the Southern University Baton Rouge Class of 1964 are planning a golden anniversary celebration May 8-9, 2014.

The commemoration will be in conjunction with the University's Centennial Celebration for the Baton Rouge campus. The University was founded in New Orleans in 1880 and was relocated to Scottís Bluff in Baton Rouge in 1914.

4/30/2014 SUNO to host new business start-up workshop, April 30
The Small Business Development and Management Institute at Southern University New Orleans is presenting a New Business Start-Up Workshop, Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Small Business Incubator, 7240 Crowder Boulevard, New Orleans.

4/28/2014 SU System president open door meetings scheduled for Spring 2014
Southern University System students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited to engage in a one-on-one conversation with SU System President Ronald Mason Jr.

Mason reserved a day each month during Spring 2014 for individual meetings to host "Presidentís Open Door Day" throughout the SU System. The upcoming meetings are by appointment only, on a first-come, first-served basis -- President's Office, 4th Floor, J.S. Clark Administration Building (SUBR).

The Southern University Ag Center will hold a gardening workshop to benefit locals in Opelousas and surrounding communities on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 9 a.m. - noon at Lighthouse Mission, 704 W. South Street, Opelousas.

Tune in for the "Inside the Southern University System" radio show on Downtown Radio 97.7.

The Southern University System (SUS) radio show airs on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's Downtown 97.7 FM on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

4/17/2014 SU gala to raise funding for tuition, scholarships, April 17
Southern University and A&M College is holding its 2014 Centennial Gala at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the L'Auberge Casino and Hotel in Baton Rouge. The event is a fundraiser for scholarships and tuition for deserving SU students.

The cost of the black-tie event is $125 per guest. Featured entertainer is recording artist Regina Belle.

4/10/2014 Thurgood Marshall College Fund President and CEO to serve as SUNOís commencement speaker, May 10
Johnny C. Taylor Jr., president and chief executive officer of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), will serve as the speaker for the Southern University at New Orleans 2014 Commencement Saturday, May 10 at 4 p.m. in Kiefer Lakefont Arena.


4/10/2014 U.S. Fifth Circult Court of Appeals Judge will be 2014 SULC Commencement Speaker, May 10
Judge James E. Graves Jr., of the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals will deliver the 2014 Commencement address for Southern University Law Center at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014, in the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus.

4/4/2014 U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu to be SUBR commencement speaker, May 9
U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu will be the commencement speaker for Southern University Baton Rouge Spring 2014 graduation ceremony set for 10:30 a.m., May 9, 2014, in the F.G. Activity Center.

The Southern University Baton Rouge campus is planning a celebration to mark its 100th year located on Scott's Bluff. The Centennial Steering Committee has planned several exciting events to celebrate this significant milestone.

Southern University Baton Rouge is ranked among U.S. News and World Reportís Short List for 10 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) that had the highest average freshman retention rates for first-year students starting in fall 2008 through 2011.

4/12/2014 Locals boost 45th Annual SU Ag Center Horse Show and Trail Ride
The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center hosted the 45th Annual Horse Show and Trail Ride, April 11-13, 2014, at the Maurice A. Edmond Livestock Arena in Baker. This year, approximately 200 riders traveled with horse in tow from Arkansas, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Texas and New Mexico to join Louisianans in Baton Rouge for the event.

Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with St. Landry School Board, and the Town of Washington to construct a greenhouse.

Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
