7/5/2015 SUAF Leadership Summit in NOLA, July 5-7
The Southern University Alumni Federation (SUAF), as a promotional partner of ESSENCE Festival, will host Leadership Summit in New Orleans, July 5-7, 2015, at the Hilton Riverside.

6/20/2015 SUSLA Foundation's 16th Annual GCC, June 20
The Southern University Shreveport Foundation is preparing for The 16th Annual Gentlemen's Cooking Classic with an added category. Lady chefs will join the annual men's competition Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Shreveport Convention Center, 400 Caddo Street, Shreveport. Also returning are junior chefs.

6/19/2015 SU authors launch book during special Juneteenth event, June 19
Three Southern University authors will launch their book "Images of America SCOTLANDVILLE." The event will be held Friday, June 19, 2015, at 4 p.m., at the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church Family Life Center, 9700 Scenic Highway.

The SU Ag Center is holding  its 2015 Family and Youth Exposition from June 18-20, 2015, in Baton Rouge. This year's theme is "Dream: Discover the Rewards of Educating & Advancing Minds."

Tune in for the "Inside the Southern University System" radio show on Downtown Radio 97.7.

The Southern University System (SUS) radio show airs on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's Downtown 97.7 FM on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

6/1/2015 SU Ag Center to host C.H.E.F. Summer Cooking Camp for youth in eight parishes, June, July
The SU Ag Center, in collaboration with the LSU AgCenter, will sponsor several youth cooking schools entitled, "Creating Healthy Enjoyable Foods" (C.H.E.F.), for youth in eight parishes throughout the state.

6/1/2015 SU Ag Center: Urban Ag Farm Open for Tours
The Southern University Ag Center's Sustainable Urban Agriculture Demonstration Farm has launched its farm tours. This educational garden gives information on vegetable varieties, planting instruction, composting techniques, and other relevant information. The farm tours will be available throughout the year.

Southern University Baton Rouge's newest Jaguars, some with their parents and relatives, were on campus June 28, 2015, for the "365 Jaguar Orientation" program.

6/27/2015 SUS Alumni executive director judges Miss Louisiana pageant
Robyn Merrick, SU System director of alumni affairs and executive director of the SU Alumni Federation, served on a panel of judges for the Miss Louisiana Pageant, June 27, 2015, at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe.

6/26/2015 Upward Bound marks 50 years of success at SUBR
The Upward Bound program at Southern University Baton Rouge is marking 50 years of helping thousands of students in Baton Rouge and around the state to get a jump-start on access to higher education.

The federally-funded college opportunity program was designed in 1965 to motivate and supports students from disadvantaged backgrounds in their pursuit of a college degree.

6/23/2015 Local principal and SU alumna Jamee Williams is finalist for Louisiana Principal of the Year
On July 11, 2015, Ascension Public Schools will find out if it has back-to-back winners of Louisiana Principal of the Year.  Gonzales Primary Principal Jaimee Williams is one of nine finalists for the 2016 honor and Pecan Grove Primary Principal Marjorie Meyers is finishing her reign as the 2015 winner.

6/23/2015 SUBR computer science receives $378,000 NASA grant
Southern University's Department of Computer Science has received a $378,075 grant from NASA to conduct research and technology development in areas critical to the space agency's mission.

6/22/2015 SU a finalist in four HBCU Digest categories
Southern University is a finalist in four categories in the 2015 HBCU Digest national awards competition.

SUBR's College of Nursing and Allied Health is a finalist in the Best Nursing School category and the Human Jukebox Marching Band is among the top Marching Bands.

Southern scored in the Top Alumnus category with National Alumni Federation President Preston Castille. The SU Alumni Federation also finished among the top National Alumni Association of the Year Category.

6/22/2015 SU band, dance camp attracts record number again
Southern University's "Human Jukebox" Marching Band has attracted another record number of participants in its summer band and dance camp.

6/20/2015 SU Ag Center Concludes Record-breaking Family and Youth Expo
The Southern University Ag Center's annual Family and Youth Exposition successfully concluded on June 20, 2015, with an awards ceremony. The culminating event for the 2015 youth development program activities statewide, brought nearly 600 youth together for a two-day educational, fun-filled experience. Each year, Southern University Ag Center specialists, agents, and researchers deliver a memorable program. This year was different in the number of participants topping the 500 mark with Avoyelles Parish leading with a record-high of 256 students.

6/18/2015 SU summer science campers get lesson on space from former astronaut
Former U.S. astronaut Bernard Harris, June 18, 2015, entertained and educated about 50 area middle school students participating in the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp on the SU Baton Rouge campus.

6/17/2015 SUNO professor meets President Obama
President Obama recently recognized Southern University New Orleans professor Murty S. Kambhampati and 13 other individuals and one organization as the newest recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM). The mentors received their awards at a White House ceremony Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

6/12/2015 Ray Belton named SU System president and chancellor
After interviewing two finalists recommended by the Southern University System (SUS) President/Chancellor Search Committee, the SUS Board of Supervisors, Friday, June 12, 2015, named Ray L. Belton President and Chancellor of the SU System.

6/10/2015 Retiring SU Ag Center chancellor honored by BR Metro Council
Leodrey Williams, chancellor of the Southern University Ag Center, who is retiring June 30, 2015, was presented with a Certificate of Recognition for 50 years of service in the field of Agriculture by the Baton Rouge Metro Council at its June 10, 2015 meeting.

6/8/2015 SUBR team part of water purification effort in Ghana
Southern University Baton Rouge students, faculty, and support staff are part of a research effort to develop low-cost materials help to help provide sustainable water purification in Ghana.The students and faculty are in the African country of Ghana for the next 30 days conducting research and developing means of improving drinking water there

6/5/2015 SUNO hosts HBCU business deans roundtable summit
Southern University New Orleans, along with Southern University Baton Rouge and Xavier University of New Orleans, June 3-6, 2015, hosted the 13th Annual Summit of the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable at the Royal Sonesta New Orleans. With the theme, "The Role of Energy and Human Capital in Economic Development from a Global Perspective."

William Belisle, director for grants and sponsored programs at SUNO, has received his fourth patent from the U.S, Patent and Trademark Office, entitled "Method and apparatus for elevating and manipulating objects using electromagnetic fields only."

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology recently opened its playground for children being treated at Southern University Baton Rougeís Speech and Hearing Clinic in Blanks Hall.

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
