Space is still available for the second session of the Southern University Ag Center's "Creating Healthy Enjoyable Foods" (C.H.E.F.) youth cooking camp. This session is open to youth ages 12-15.

Indiana University professor Pamela Foohey will present the opening lecture of the 2016-17 SU Law Center Speakers Series at noon, Thursday, September 8, 2016, in 129-130 A. A. Lenoir Hall.

5/13/2016 SUNO dean appointed interim chancellor

Lisa Mims-Devezin has been appointed the interim chancellor of Southern University New Orleans (SUNO), effective July 1, 2016. Mims-Devezin will fill the position left vacant after chancellor Victor Ukpolo steps down June 30, 2016.

5/13/2016 SU law professor gives real estate finance presentation to ABA property lawyers
SU Law Center professor Chris Odinet gave a presentation to property lawyers from across the country at the spring symposium of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law, Friday, May 13, 2016, in Boston, Massachusetts. Odinet has been a fellow of the ABA section since 2014.

5/13/2016 Recent SULC grad named to head SU Laboratory School
Averil Sanders Jr., a Spring 2016 SU Law Center graduate, has been named permanent director of the Southern University Laboratory School, effective July 1, 2016.
6/7/2016 SULC students participate in public interest law clerk internships this summer
Ten SULC students will participate in the Louisiana Department of Justice Summer 2016 Law Clerk Internship Program with Attorney General Jeff Landry.

6/7/2016 SU senior awarded BRAABJ scholarship to attend NABJ convention
Southern University Baton Rouge senior Daris Schneider-Bray will attend the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Convention this summer thanks to a scholarship award from the Baton Rouge Area Association of Black Journalists (BRAABJ).

6/8/2016 SU professors selected as Carnegie African Diaspora Program Fellows
Two Southern University Baton Rouge (SUBR) professors are among 59 African-born scholars based in the United States and Canada who are this summer traveling to Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda for 14-90 days to conduct academic projects with their peers at host universities in those countries. SUBR faculty members Fulbert L. Namwamba, professor, urban forestry, and Aloyce Kaliba, professor, economics, and the other visiting fellows will work with their hosts on a range of projects.

6/13/2016 Southern University student delegation studies and serves in Belize
Southern University participated in the 2016 Belize Study Abroad program with Wesley Junior College in Belize, Central America, May 15-June 5, 2016. The three-week program was coordinated through the SU Center for International Affairs and University Outreach, directed by dean and state representative Barbara Carpenter, with assistant to the dean, Kristan Gordon.

6/14/2016 SULC ranked #4 in highest yield of student enrollment
When prospective students are offered a seat in the incoming class at Southern University Law Center, they mostly like will accept, according to a recent report by U.S. News & World Report.

6/15/2016 SU setting stage for large fall freshman class
A large incoming class of new students at Southern University Baton Rouge is expected for Fall 2016 based on significant increases in applications from new freshmen and on the number of freshmen applicants admitted so far to Southern University Baton Rouge.

6/16/2016 SU B.A.Y.O.U. Program introduces students to agriculture
Students participating in the Beginning Agricultural Youth Opportunities Unlimited (B.A.Y.O.U.) Program learned about the career opportunities available in the field of agriculture during the program’s Ag Science Day, June 10, 2016.

6/16/2016 Record breaking numbers traveled to Baton Rouge for the SU Ag Center’s 2016 Family & Youth Expo
Thirty students from Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes traveled to the Southern University Ag Center to participate in the 2016 Family & Youth Exposition, June 16-18, 2016. This three-day educational and fun filled experience brought nearly 450 youth from around the state of Louisiana. This year’s Expo was themed, "Always Seeking Knowledge (A.S.K.).”

6/21/2016 SU's Human Jukebox to bring world-class talent, show to Queen City Battle of the Bands
The SU "Human Jukebox," Nathan Haymer director, will perform in the McDonald's Queen City Battle of the Bands in Charlotte, North Carolina, Saturday, August 27, 2016, in Charlotte’s Memorial Stadium.

6/22/2016 SU Board member elected president of North American Baptist Fellowship of Baptist World Alliance
The Rev. Samuel C. Tolbert Jr., president of the National Baptist Convention of America, International, Inc. and member of the SU Board of Supervisors, was elected June 22, 2016, to serve as the president of the North American Baptist Fellowship (NABF) of the Baptist World Alliance.

6/24/2016 SULC SBA president installed as student member of the SU Board of Supervisors
Jordan B. Franklin, the 2016-17 SULC Student Bar Association (SBA) president, was installed as a student member of the Southern University Board of Supervisors on Friday, June 24, 2016.

6/29/2016 SU physics professor co-author on second gravitational-wave detection publication, honored for his professional endeavors
Stephen C. McGuire, the James and Ruth Smith Endowed Professor of Physics in the College of Sciences and Agriculture, and principal investigator - LIGO Scientific Collaboration, Southern University and A&M College, is a co-author on the publication, "GW151226: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a 22 Solar-mass Binary Black Hole Coalescence,” which was published in Physical Review Letters, during the week of June 17, 2016.

6/29/2016 SU System announces search committee for SUNO chancellor
A search committee comprised of a diverse group of administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders will screen and recommend final candidates for the position of chancellor for Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO).

The SUNO Search Committee will assist the Southern University (SU) System with selecting a replacement for Victor Ukpolo who steps down June 30, 2016.

The 17-member search team will be co-chaired by Charles Rice, CEO of Entergy New Orleans, and Gloria B. Moultrie, vice chancellor for community outreach and University advancement, SUNO.

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
