Southern University New Orleans is hosting and sponsoring events and activities, August 17-29, 2015, to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Katrina.

9/3/2015 SU Ag Center to Hold 15th Annual Back-to-School Summit in Lafayette, September 3
The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, through its Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives, will host its 15th Annual Back-to-School Summit on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette.

9/16/2015 SUBR to host Fall Career Exploration Fair, September 16
Southern University Baton Rouge's Office of Career Services will hold its Fall Career Exploration Day September 16, 2015, in the F.G. Clark Activity Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

10/17/2015SU Ag Center accepting BOLD application for 2015-2016 class session
The Building Opportunities through Leadership Development (BOLD) Project is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 session. Classes will begin on Saturday, October 17, 2015, for registered participants.

12/17/2015SU Ag Center 1st Annual Scholarship Gala, December 17
Tickets are now available for the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center's 1st Annual Scholarship Gala themed, "Sowing Seeds for Future 1890 Scholars: Growing the Next Generation." The gala will be held at L'Auberge Baton Rouge on December 17, 2015, 8 p.m.

Southern University physics professor, Stephen C. McGuire was recently selected to be one of 10 inaugural Fellows of a prestigious international group of scientists.

8/24/2015 HBCU Sports ranks ‘Jukebox’ preseason #1 HBCU band
HBCU Sports presents the inaugural preseason top 15 HBCU band poll for 2015. The "Human Jukebox" Southern University Marching Band is in the number one spot.

8/24/2015 SU senior receives White House Initiative honor
Southern University senior Sally Ross was selected this month as a 2015 HBCU All-Star by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

8/24/2015 SUSLA professor selected to create new Poultry Program in Senegal, Africa
Joseph Orban, distinguished professor of biomedical sciences at Southern University Shreveport, was selected to create curriculum and train staff on the development of a Practical Training Module on poultry production for the Horticultural Initiation Center of Saint Louis Senegal, located in Saint Louis, Senegal, Africa.

8/24/2015 SU Ag Center among recipients of $2 Million Walmart Foundation Grant
The Southwest Center for Rural Initiatives (SCRI), a satellite campus of the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center housed in Opelousas, has received a grant from the Walmart Foundation to teach healthy living practices to youth through its Ambassadors for Healthy Living Program.

8/25/2015 SUBR career services officially opens media center funded by BASF
Southern University Baton Rouge's Career Services Center and SU System President-Chancellor Ray Belton, welcomed representatives of The BASF Corporation to campus August 25, 2015, as they opened Southern University's Career Services Media Center.

8/25/2015 SUNO's preliminary fall enrollment shows a six percent increase
Preliminary enrollment figures indicate that 2,836 students have enrolled for the 2015 fall semester. This represents a six percent increase from the 2,674 students who enrolled in fall 2014. Final enrollment figures will be released next month.

Former Miss Southern University Shanice Mae Sam is in the current issue of Ebony magazine after being chosen one of the top 2015 HBCU campus queens.

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
