Tune in for the "Inside the Southern University System" radio show on Downtown Radio 97.7.

The Southern University System (SUS) radio show airs on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's Downtown 97.7 FM on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

1/9/2015 2015 SULC Hooding Ceremony set for January 9
Fall 2014 graduates of the Southern University Law Center (SULC) will be recognized in a Hooding Ceremony at 6 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2015, in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus.

SULC alumna Debra Page Coleman (pictured), '88, group vice president and associate general counsel at Macy's, will be the featured speaker at the ceremony.

11/28/2014SU Board elects new officers for 2015
The Southern University Board of Supervisors today elected Leon R. Tarver II as chairman, and Calvin W. Braxton Sr., as vice chairmen for 2015, during it’s regular meeting held in New Orleans.

12/3/2014 NOPD chief participates in SUNO forum
New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael S. Harrison served as a panelist during a discussion on interactions between black males and police officers December 3, 2014, at Southern University New Orleans. The event was coordinated by SUNO's Department of Criminal Justice and Student Government Association, the Urban League of Greater New Orleans, and the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus.

12/3/2014 SU Ag Center 4-H Program to receive $75,200 award from the National 4-H Council
The Southern University Ag Center's 4-H Living Interactive Family Education (LIFE) National Mentoring Program has received $75,200 from the National 4-H Council, funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).

12/3/2014 SU alumnus featured in AviationPros 'Top 40 Under 40'
SU alumnus Robert Osborne was recently featured in "Top 40 Under 40.” Osborne received a bachelor's degree from Southern University Baton Rouge and is manager of special projects with the Shreveport Airport Authority.

12/4/2014 SUNO Child Development and Family Studies Program earns AAFCS accreditation
The Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) has granted accreditation to the Child Development and Family Studies Department at Southern University New Orleans (SUNO). The accreditation is granted until 2024.

12/5/2014 SULC professor awarded Fulbright grant
Southern University Law Center professor Evelyn L. Wilson has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and do research at Kathmandu School of Law in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal during the 2014-2015 academic year, the United States Department of State and the J.William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.

12/5/2014 SUBR professor's article published in international journal
Southern University and A&M College's David Porter recently had his article on the origins of the English language published in the Anglo-Saxon England (ASE), an annual peer-reviewed academic journal that covers the study of various aspects of history, language, and culture.

12/8/2014 SU football player is chief student marshal for fall commencement
When Southern University Jaguar defensive back Jamaal Ali Martin will be chief student marshal -- the undergraduate student with the highest grade point average -- for the 465 students to receive diplomas at SUBR commencement exercises, Friday, December 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

12/8/2014 SUNO, SUSLA receive NEH grants
Southern University New Orleans and Southern University Shreveport are among five universities in Louisiana to receive awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of $17.9 million in grants given to 233 humanities projects around the country.
12/9/2014 SU Ag Center helps Community Learning Center start a fall garden
Students at the Bright Futures Community Learning Center in Donaldsonville were eager to get started planting their fall garden. Everyone played their part from assembling the raised beds, shoveling dirt, planting, watering the plants, hauling dirt with the wheel barrow and snapping pictures to the clean – up of the area after the activity was completed.

12/10/2014SUNO professor, other scientists develop new HSV treatment strategy
An assistant professor at Southern University New Orleans and several other scientists have developed a novel treatment approach for persistent viral infections, such as herpes. The research investigation is a multi-institutional effort involving several scientists. Christian Clement (pictured), a SUNO assistant professor of biology, is author of the research.

A few weeks ago Southern University Baton Rouge music major Joshua Staes had his opera debut on stage in New York City.

12/10/2014SU freshman quarterback among finalists for 2014 Jerry Rice Award
Southern University freshman quarterback Austin Howard has been named a finalist for the 2014 Jerry Rice award after leading the Jaguars to the 2014 Western Division title and a return trip to the league's championship game in Houston.

12/10/2014SU Cade Library receives HBCU Library Alliance grant
Southern University Baton Rouge John B. Cade Library recently received a sub grant from The Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Library Alliance to support faculty research.

12/13/2014Southern University has 465 new Southernites
Southern University has a new class of Southernites after graduating 465 students December 13, 2014, at the 2014 Fall Commencement ceremony. Commencement speaker Bishop Joseph Walker, an SU alum and former band member of the famous "Human Jukebox," was commencement guest speaker. Chief student marshal, Jamaal Martin, (pictured) a criminal justice major with a 3.78 grade point average, lead the students into the center a week after participating in the SWAC Championship in Houston, Texas as a member of the Southern University Jaguar Football team.

12/17/2014SUBR ranked in top 10 2015 Niche Best HBCU Schools ranking, an education ranking website, has selected Southern University and A&M College as the 10th best among Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

12/18/2014SUBR professor publishes poetry collection
John Warner Smith, a Southern University Baton Rouge adjunct professor, recently published a poetry collection titled A Mandala of Hands.

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
