10/13/2015American Heart Association's CPR Mobile Tour to make a stop at the SU Ag Center, October 13
The Southern University Ag Center has teamed up with the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Amerigroup Foundation to host the 2015 Hands-Only CPR Mobile Tour in the Capital Area on October 13, 2015, in the rear parking lot of the SU Ag Center, 181 B.A. Little Drive.

Tickets for the 42nd Bayou Classic football game between the Southern University Jaguars and the Grambling State University Tigers are on sale now.

12/17/2015SU Ag Center 1st Annual Scholarship Gala, December 17
Tickets are now available for the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center's 1st Annual Scholarship Gala themed, "Sowing Seeds for Future 1890 Scholars: Growing the Next Generation." The gala will be held at L'Auberge Baton Rouge on December 17, 2015, 8 p.m.

The Building Opportunities through Leadership Development (BOLD) Project is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 session. Classes will begin on Saturday, October 17, 2015, for registered participants.

The Office of Admissions and Recruitment will host its annual High School Day Saturday, November 14, 2015, in the F. G. Clark Activity Center on Southern University's Baton Rouge campus.

9/23/2015 Former SU student and civil rights activist dies
JoAnn Morris, a then freshman sociology major at Southern University in 1960, who was one of seven students arrested in Baton Rouge March 28, 1960, on charges of disturbing the peace after they refused to leave a whites-only section of the H.S. Kress drugstore, died September 23, 2015, at age 74 in Baton Rouge.

9/25/2015 Late SU professor and administrator receives posthumous honor
Posthumously, Ella Lee Kelley, former professor of Chemistry, Dean of the Honors College, and associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, at Southern University and A&M College at Baton Rouge (SUBR), received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE). The award ceremony took place in Orlando, Florida, at the closing banquet of the 2015 annual meeting of NOBCChE, September 25, 2015.

10/7/2015 SU Ag Center hosts 4-H Youth National Science Day
The SU Ag Center, October 7, 2015, hosted 4-H National Youth Science Day (4-H NYSD) event.  Youth in East Baton Rouge Parish joined hundreds of thousands of youth across the world in leading the eighth annual 4-H National Youth Science Day experiment, which combined cars, calculators, and cell phones to show how physics principles influence a pressing problem among U.S. teens. This year's experiment is titled "Motion Commotion."

10/1/2015 SU Ag Center part of $1.25 million CDC grant to reduce obesity and chronic diseases in three La. parishes
The LSU AgCenter has been awarded a two-year, $1.25 million grant from the U.S. Centers for Disease (CDC) that will fund research and outreach projects aimed at reducing obesity and chronic diseases in three rural Louisiana parishes: Madison, St. Helena, and Tensas.

 Partner institutions working with the AgCenter include the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, LSU's Pennington Biomedical Research Center and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

10/9/2015 SU Ag Center receives more than $500,000 in USDA/NIFA funding
The U.S. Department of Agriculture/National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded $550,000 to two faculty members in support of research, teaching, and outreach initiatives at the SU Ag Center.

Fatemeh Malekian (pictured left) received a $300.000 grant to determine the effect, on college freshman, of consumption of whey protein (WP) and resistant starch (RS) health/breakfast bars on body weight and Kasundra Cyrus (pictured right) received a three-year, $250.000 grant o provide childcare providers with professional development and child development students with practicum experiences through a family resource facility that will offer educational support to families.

C. Reuben Walker, chair of agricultural sciences and urban forestry, SUBR, has won an award in recognition of innovation from USDA/ National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

10/2/2015 SU senior has Brazilian singing debut
SU senior, Briannica Thompson, was chosen to travel to Ribeirao Preto, Brazil, October 2, 2015, to perform with the Orquestra Academia from the Projeto ALMA-Academia Livre de Musica e Artes, under the direction of maestro Reginaldo Nascimento, a Brazilian violinist and conductor.

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
