Tune in for the "Inside the Southern University System" radio show on Downtown Radio 97.7.

The Southern University System (SUS) radio show airs on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's Downtown 97.7 FM on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Southern University's Division of Continuing Education is hosting the 14th Annual College Summer Program "2015 Jaguars Kid's Camp," June 1-July 16, on the Baton Rouge campus.

2/25/2015 Authors to discuss race and religion in La. at the 2014-15 SULC Speaker Series, March 3
At noon on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, authors Rachel L. Emanuel, A. P. Tureaud Jr., and Michael H. Rubin will present "The History and the Mystery: A More Noble Cause and The Cottoncrest Curse,” a compelling look into race and religion in Louisiana as part of the Southern University Law Center’s Speakers Series
.
"The History,” A More Noble Cause: A. P. Tureaud and the Struggle for Civil Rights In Louisiana is a debut biography written by Emanuel and Tureaud.  "The Mystery,” The Cottoncrest Curse, is a debut murder thriller by Rubin.

4/23/2015 SAVE THE DATE: SU Ag 1890 Wellness Walk, April 23
The Southern University Ag Center will host an 1890 Wellness Walk, Thursday, April 23, 2015, 9 a.m.

The 1890 Wellness Walk is a part of the 125th Celebration of the 1890 Land-Grant Universities. All proceeds raised through this event will go toward the Justin Morrill Scholarship Fund.

3/9/2015 Southern University annual Founders' Day celebration, March 9
Southern University will celebrate 135 years during its annual celebration March 9, 2015, on the Baton Rogue campus. A full day of events and activities are planned.

3/5/2015 SU Ag Center Livestock Show, March 5-7
The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center will host the 72nd Annual State Livestock and Poultry Show March 5 - 7, 2015. at the Maurice A. Edmond Livestock Arena in Baton Rouge.

3/18/2015 SU Ag Center to celebrate National Agriculture Day, March 18
The Southern University Ag Center will join in celebrating National Ag Day in recognition of the abundance provided by American agriculture. The event is set for Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union, Southern University Baton Rouge.

2/27/2015 SU Ag Center to co-host summit on the state of Louisiana families, February 27
The Southern University Ag Center along with PICO Louisiana, the Micah Project, and members of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus will co-host a summit on the "State of Families of Color in Louisiana." The event will be held on February 27, 2015, 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the Southern University Ag Center, 181 B.A. Little Drive.

3/3/2015 SU Ag Center to participate in workshop for beginning and advanced farmers, March 3
The Southern University Ag Center will participate in a workshop targeting beginning and advanced farmers on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center in Lafayette starting at 8:30 a.m. Alex Hitt will serve as keynote speaker.

5/2/2015 SU Alumni Home Chapter to hold crawfish fundraiser, May 2
The Home Chapter of the Southern University Alumni Federation will host a Crawfish Boil and Music Festival Saturday, May 2, 2015, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at BREC Greenwood Community Park, 13350, Highway 19, Baker. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the event.

2/4/2015 SUBR exhibit featuring art from SU Lab School alum continues through March 5
Southern University Baton Rouge held an opening reception, February 4, 2015, to mark the opening of the Irvin Jones Collection of African-American art in the Visual Arts Gallery in Frank Hayden Hall.

Jones, a graduate of the SU's Laboratory School, began collecting art after taking a class in art appreciation while a student at Howard University. He has amassed more than 400 works that he has purchased.

Southern University Shreveport's Lalah Hathaway concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, March, 12, 2015, at the Scottish Rite Temple, 725 Cotton Street.

2/23/2015 Graduate student curates exhibit of SUNO’s African Art Collection
Select works from the University’s African Art Collection will be on display in SUNO's Leonard S. Washington Memorial Library as part of "Celebrating a Legacy," an exhibit curated by MA Museum Studies student Erika N. Witt.  An opening reception was held Tuesday, Feburary 24, 2015,  in the library.

2/2/2015 Southern University Centennial Commemorative Book available for purchase
The Southern University Centennial Book, 100 Years on the Bluff, can be purchased for $20 at the Office of Media Relations, first floor, J.S. Clark Administration Building, Baton Rouge, with cash, check or credit card.

The Southern University Ag Center's Livestock Show held a "Beef Showmen" workshop for St. Helena 4-H Livestock Exhibitors on Sunday, February 8, 2015, in Greensburg.

2/20/2015 SU alumna to head V.I. Education Department
Southern University grad Sharon McCollum will soon head the Virgin Islands Education Department. A Virgin Island government committee recently approved her nomination.

McCollum has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Southern.

2/13/2015 SU marching band fulfills wish of teenager with cerebral palsy
Jaymerson George had his wish come true on February 13, 2015. He got to see and hear the Southern University Marching Band, "The Human Jukebox.”

The famous Make-A-Wish Foundation granted George’s wish and director of Bands Nathan Haymer said he was excited and proud that Southern University could make it happen.

2/19/2015 SU scientist earns grant for project that may lead to treatment of autism, other conditions
The National Institute of Health has awarded Southern University a three-year grant, totaling $331,560, to work on a project that will help researchers develop therapies to treat autism and Huntington's Disease. The grant was secured by Eduardo Martinez-Ceballos, the newly elected chair of biology, chemistry, and environmental toxicology.

2/24/2015 SUNO women's basketball wins second title
The SUNO Lady Knights (16-4, 11-1 GCAC) women's basketball team clinched the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference regular-season women's basketball championship -- the second in the program's history and the first since 1999-2000.

2/25/2015 SUS distinguished professor of physics receives major DOE grant
Diola Bagayoko, the Southern University System Distinguished Professor of Physics, has received a three-year, $503,931 federal research grant to help develop new methods and processes in the field of materials and energy science.

2/20/2015 SUSF 1880 Society awards $31,000 for SU student recruitment 
The Southern University System Foundation (SUSF) 1880 Society recently awarded $31,000 to support University and alumni student recruitment efforts.

1880 awarded $25,000 to the SU Alumni Federation to support the Federation's regional student recruitment initiative, and $6,000 to the SU Office of Admissions and Recruitment to support the newly formed division’s effort to recruit students for the Baton Rouge campus.

1/10/2011 Make a gift to support the Southern University System today

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
