Mary Landrieu, former U.S. Senator, will serve as the speaker for Southern University New Orleans 2015 Commencement Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 4 p.m. in Kiefer Lakefront Arena.

5/9/2015 Walmart executive to address 2015 SULC Commencement, May 9
Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, executive vice president and treasurer at Wal-Mart Stores Incorporated, will deliver the 2015 Commencement address for Southern University Law Center at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, in the F. G. Clark Activity Center on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus.

5/2/2015 SU Alumni Home Chapter to hold crawfish fundraiser, May 2
The Home Chapter of the Southern University Alumni Federation will host a Crawfish Boil and Music Festival Saturday, May 2, 2015, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at BREC Greenwood Community Park, 13350, Highway 19, Baker. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the event.

4/23/2015 SAVE THE DATE: SU Ag 1890 Wellness Walk, April 23
The Southern University Ag Center will host an 1890 Wellness Walk, Thursday, April 23, 2015, 9 a.m.

The 1890 Wellness Walk is a part of the 125th Celebration of the 1890 Land-Grant Universities. All proceeds raised through this event will go toward the Justin Morrill Scholarship Fund.

Tune in for the "Inside the Southern University System" radio show on Downtown Radio 97.7.

The Southern University System (SUS) radio show airs on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's Downtown 97.7 FM on Sunday mornings from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

3/27/2015 SU alum, Kellogg foundation trustee Joseph Stewart directs $500 to SUSF
As a trustee of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, Joe Stewart recently directed a $500,000 contribution to the Southern University System Foundation (SUSF).

In recognition of this gift and his long standing commitment to the University, the SUS Foundation will recognize Stewart for his sizable support toward the advancement of the University's mission on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Donald Wade House on the Baton Rouge campus of Southern University and A&M College.

3/27/2015 SUNO professor receives Presidential Award for Excellence
President Obama has named Southern University New Orleans (SUNO) biology professor Murty S. Kambhampati and 13 other individuals and one organization as the newest recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM).

3/25/2015 LOFSA Fly tour visits SU
Southern University welcomed and entertained some 400 high students from around the state March 25, 2015, to the "LOFSA Fly Tour” on the Baton Rouge campus.
3/25/2015 SUSLA annual towel drive supports local mission
Each year, Southern University Shreveport’s TRiO program sponsors a towel drive to collect towels for a local mission

The 2015 community service project collected 2,300 white towels and white pillowcases that were presented to the Shreveport Bossier Rescue Mission March 25, 2015.

3/23/2015 SUBR Career Services receives $5,000 donation from Monsanto
Southern University Baton Rouge's Office of Career Service received a $5,000 donation from the Monsanto Company. The donation was made March 23, 2015, during a visit with acting chancellor Flandus McClinton Jr.

3/21/2015 SU Ag Center honors Louisiana Living Legends during annual Small Farmer Conference
Three individuals were recognized as Louisiana Living Legends during the fifth annual Louisiana Small Farmer Conference at the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center on March 20, 2015:  Bobby R. Phills, program director for the Science Center and professor in the College of Engineering Sciences, Technology and Agriculture at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida; Freddie Johnson, a retired Southern University food and nutrition professor, of Baton Rouge; and Elvadus Fields, former county agent and farm management specialist at Southern, now retired, of St. Joseph.

3/20/2015 SUBR professor part of cancer summit at Harvard
Southern University professor Victor W. A. Mbarika was part of a Global Health Summit on Cancer at Harvard University Medical School March 20-21, 2015.

3/19/2015 SU physics professor chosen for Fulbright Fellowship
Professor Rambabu Bobba has been selected by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board to receive a prestigious Fulbright Fellowship to India.

The 2015-2016 Fulbright-Nehru Academic Excellence Fellowship will allow Bobba, who has been with SU for 30 years, to travel to develop a collaborative research program with Srivenkateswara University in Tirupati, India.

3/19/2015 SUNO women's basketball claim first-ever win in three trips to the NAIA National Championship
Seventh-seeded Southern New Orleans became the second team to win its first-ever game at the national championship, as the Lady Knights upset perennial powerhouse and No. 2-seed Vanguard (Calif.), 84-56, in the final day-one game of the 2015 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship, presented by Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City, March 18-24, 2015, in Independence Missouri.

3/16/2015 SU alum Brig. Gen. Craig Crenshaw is up for promotion
Southern University graduate Brig. Gen. Craig Crenshaw was recently nominated by President Barack Obama to receive second star, promoting him to the rank of Major General in the U.S. Marine Corps.

3/14/2015 Southern students claim 6 medals at singing competition
Six Southern University Baton Rouge students claimed medals, including two for first place, at the recent National Association of Teachers of Singing vocal competition March 14, 2015, in Hammond.

8/1/2012 SU System Foundation 1880 Society
Fifteen charter members in the fall of 2011 established a new giving society with the potential to generate $1 million annually for the University. The 1880 Society is a cumulative giving initiative where individuals make multi-year pledges to support the University. The goal is to have 1,000 individuals give at least $1,000 per year.
