SULC 2012 graduate receives LSBA Law Student Award - 6/1/2012 -

Jason Benford, '12, received the 2012 Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) Law Student Award at a ceremony, May 29, at the Louisiana Supreme Court, New Orleans. Benford, who was honored for his pro bono work, was accompanied by SULC Donald North, who nominated him for the award.

As a law student, Benford volunteered with the Baton Rouge Bar Association's "Thirst for Justice" and "Ask an Attorney" programs, which provide legal advice for residents in the Baton Rouge area. Other programs he has served as a volunteer are the SU VITA TAX Program, LSBA Diversity Conclave, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, and the SULC Clinical Education Program.

During the summer of 2011, Benford assisted SULC Summer Youth Program that brought minority high school students from a number of southern states to the campus to learn about the law and legal careers.

President and co-founder of SULC Gay Alliance for Legal Equality, Benford sits on the executive board for the Capitol City Alliance.
