SUSLA's new allied health program to begin Fall 2012 - 5/31/2012 -

Southern University Shreveport this fall will offer a Sterile Processing Technician Program offering a Certificate of Applied Science (CAS), which prepares students for careers in sterile processing, as well as materials management and distribution in health care industries.

The program, approved by the SU Board of Supervisors in December 2011 and by the Board of Regents at its May 2012 meeting, will provide students classroom instruction as well as hands-on training in the University lab, hospital operating room suites, instrument rooms, and central service departments. The program prepares the student to take the National Certification Exam and become a Certified Registered Sterile Processing Technician (CRST).

Sterile processing and distribution courses (SPDT) will be offered during fall and spring semesters. A boot camp Central Processing Review course designated to prepare the student to take the national certification exam will be offered in the summer.
