Urban League CEO to be SUBR commencement speaker, December 14

Marc H. Morial, president of the National Urban League, will be the
guest speaker for Southern University Baton Rouge’s Fall Commencement at
10:30 a.m., December 14, 2012, in the F. G. Clark Activity Center.
Morial, a two-term mayor of New Orleans, is the son of the city's first African-American Mayor, the late Ernest "Dutch" Morial.
During his career, Morial has been an entrepreneur, lawyer, professor, legislator, mayor, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and CEO of the National Urban League.
As mayor of New Orleans, Marc Morial led New Orleans' 1990s renaissance and attacked the city's vast urban problems. During his tenure New Orleans won the All-American City Award in 1996 for the first time, brought growth to the city with attractions such as Super Bowls and brought the NBA to the city with the relocation of the Hornets from Charlotte, North Carolina.
He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in economics and African-American studies and he holds a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Morial has served as the president of the Urban League since 2003. He has been recognized as one of the 100 most influential Black Americans by Ebony Magazine, as well as one of the Top 50 Nonprofit Executives by the Nonprofit Times.
