A group of students and parents participated in a recent College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Science's "Cook Like a Chef" summer camp. The program is designed to provide students and their parents learning experiences that will enhance their knowledge, awareness, and attitudes regarding the benefits of healthy cooking, eating, and physical activity. The camp include daily sessions for students and weekly sessions for parents. The camp consisted of classes that focused on basic food preparation techniques, nutrition education, and factors that influence eating behavior, a variety of physical activities, cooking demonstrations by local chefs, and field trips. The program's objective is to evaluate the impact of the summer camp on promoting healthy eating and physical activity lifestyles among families; thus, reducing childhood obesity in the Southern University community.
