SUNO annual BASH fundraiser to honor alum's Legacy, October 30
- 10/30/2015 -
The Southern University New Orleans Foundation will honor alumnus Ron Gardner's legacy during its annual BASH at the Hyatt Regency New Orleans from 7-11 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2015.
Gardner, who died Tuesday, September 22, 2015, after a long illness, was a community stalwart who advised former U.S. presidents and mayors, led and sat on numerous committees and boards, and was recognized as an organizer and a role model. Gardner was vice chancellor for administrative, community, and security at the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans. He graduated from SUNO in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry.
The SUNO Foundation will proudly honor Gardner at this year's BASH, and will raise scholarship dollars to help biology students achieve their academic goals.
The BASH, which began in 2004, is named for SUNO's chancellor emeritus and first chancellor, the late Emmett W. Bashful, the event's first honoree. The 2015 BASH co-chairs are SUNO alumni Michael Bruno and Louvinia E. Wallace. The honorary co-chairs are SUNO alumni Patrick Dobard, Recovery School District superintendent, and Henderson Lewis, Orleans Schools superintendent.
In addition to a silent auction, the event will feature entertainment by New Orleans singer Kayla Jasmine.
This year's BASH is expected to have the same magic as the first one, according to Gloria B. Moultrie, vice chancellor of SUNOís Office of Community Outreach/University Advancement. "We encourage the community to come out to honor Ron, and to help future students. Itís a great way to celebrate Ron's life and legacy."
