SU music department plays major role in BR Symphony concert

Several Southern University music department instructors, including director of bands Lawrence Jackson, were part of a special concert by the Baton Rouge Symphony, October 11, 2013, at the Baton Rouge River Center Theater for the Performing Arts.
Jackson arranged three songs that was played by the Symphony: "Brighter Day," by Kirk Franklin, "Bless Me" (Prayer of Jabez), by Donald Lawrence, and "Anthem of Praise," by Richard Smallwood.
Three music faculty members performed in the concert. Professor Jacqueline Paige Green performed a solo on "His Eye on the Sparrow," adjunct instructor Laurence Hebert performed with the Shiloh Baptist Church Choir, and professor Craig Heinzen played trumpet in the Baton Rouge Symphony.
Other local choirs participating included the Greater King David Baptist Church Mass Choir, the Florida Boulevard Baptist Church Choir, Heritage, the Cox Communications Gospel Choir, the Celebration Quartet, and the Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus.
