SUS president visits local school with Dept. of Ed administrator - 11/21/2013 -

SU System President Ronald Mason Jr. and Jim Shelton, deputy secretary for innovation and improvement, U.S. Department of Education, visited Capitol Middle School in Baton Rouge, November 21, 2013.

Capitol Middle School has made remarkable improvement in student achievement over the last two years. Mason and Shelton met with SU alumna and principal Viola Jackson with the school’s leadership team, that includes SU alumni.

The number two person under Secretary Arne Duncan, Shelton manages a portfolio that includes most of the department's competitive teacher quality, school choice, and learning technology programs. He also met with at SU with chancellor LLorens and presidents from Morgan State and Dillard universities, and Bennett and Russ colleges.
