The Southern University System’s Office of Academic and Student Affairs is hosting the Sixth Annual J.K. Haynes Teacher Preparation Conference, Tuesday, Oct. 6.

This one-day conference will feature exciting and informative sessions and workshops addressing important issues in enhancing educational delivery in Louisiana. The conference seeks to improve teacher education efforts for minorities by bringing together university faculty and the elementary and secondary education community.

This year’s conference theme is: “Creating High Performing Schools for Underserved Populations: The Role of HBCUs”. Louisiana Superintendent of Education, Paul Pastorek, Esq., will share his vision for education in Louisiana during the opening session.

“I am delighted to see the Southern University System bring together stakeholders, decision makers and policy experts in a concerted effort to strengthen opportunities for the young people in our state,” said System President, Kassie Freeman. “This conference, in addition to honoring the legendary work of J. K. Haynes, demonstrates Southern’s role as an institution that identifies issues and seeks to address them. Our dialogue will focus on education reform, teacher preparation, teacher quality and curriculum development, which are all essential components for creating high performing schools for underserved populations.”

Several distinguished educators with be featured as speakers and panelists, such as Obama Advisor and Howard University Dean of Education, Dr. Leslie T. Fenwick. Current, former, and future educators are invited to attend. Registration is free!
