Rear Admiral William D. Baumgartner, a U.S. Coast Guard Judge Advocate General, recently met with officials at Southern University to discuss career opportunities for students in the U.S. Coast Guard.
 
The meeting was part of a nation-wide campaign to increase the diversity and volume of officer recruitment within the U.S. Coast Guard at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Southern was Baumgartner’s first stop on his tour of 12 HBCUs.
 
Baumgartner met with Southern Chancellor Kofi Lomotey, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Mwalimu Shujaa, and Navy Commanding Officer and SU Professor of Naval Science Capt. Gerard Hall.
