SUNO to host mayoral candidates forum - Friday, January 22, 2010
|
|
Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) will host a
televised mayoral candidates forum on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 8 p.m. to
9 p.m. in the Health and Physical Education building on the Park Campus at 6400
Press Drive.
SUNO has partnered with the Citywide Ecumenical Coalition
(CEC) and WHNO-TV to produce the event.
The forum will be broadcast live on WHNO-TV, streamed live on
NewOrleans.com, and recorded on local Telemundo affiliate, KGLA-TV. The moderator will be SUNO's interim
director of public relations, Eddie Francis.
The mayoral forum is faith-based and will focus on issues
that affect the quality of life in New Orleans. The content is based on a study done by Democratic Party
strategist, author, and Tulane University professor James Carville. The study indicated that the road to
the office of mayor of New Orleans would go through African-American churches.
The CEC aims to extend the local leadership conversation
based on the perception that the church should remain socially isolated on
issues affecting members of the faith community. The group, led by Bishop J. D. Wiley of Life Center
Cathedral, consists of religious leaders from the New Orleans area, and is
dedicated to improving the quality of life for all citizens.
