About 700 undergraduate and graduate students will
receive degrees during Southern University and A&M College's Spring
Commencement exercise on Friday, May 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the F.G. Clark
Activity Center.
Southern alum and IBM vice president of systems software
Dexter Henderson, will be the commencement speaker. Henderson was a receiver on
Southern's football team in the early 1980s.
Henderson is responsible for IBM’s worldwide system offerings
for its System and Technology Group. He joined IBM as a computer programmer in
1984, after receiving his bachelor of science degree in computer science from
SUBR.
Henderson has held numerous executive
leadership roles in multiple divisions within IBM and has served as vice
president, Development, Platform Management. Henderson, along with fellow
Southern grad Elmer Corbin, IBM's director of systems development and
university alliances, are working to develop Cloud Computing on the Baton Rouge
campus.
