SU SYSTEM ANNOUNCEMENT

To the Southern University System Family and Community:

The Southern University System family extends our deepest condolences to Johnny G. Anderson, former Chairman of the SU System Board of Supervisors.  On yesterday, Sonja Pullen Anderson and Jonathan Anderson, the wife and son of Johnny Anderson passed away. The untimely death of both Sonja and Jonathan has saddened the hearts of all throughout the Southern University System family and the Baton Rouge, St. Landry, and Alexandria communities.  We will continue to uplift the Pullen / Anderson family in prayer.   Moments ago Mr. Anderson released the following statement:

"My son Jonah and I want to thank the community for their prayers and the incredible expression of  support in our grief stricken dawn following yesterday's tragedy. We also want to thank the emergency responders, doctors and nurses who worked to save my wife, Sonja, and our son, Jonathan. Sonja was the light of my life. Her world was filled with caring for our two-year old twin boys Jonathan and Jonah. Her actions yesterday were a true testament to a mother's love. Jonathan was a happy and outgoing little boy with unlimited potential.  While my heart is broken, I will lean on my faith in God and devote myself fully to the care of our son Jonah. We ask for continued prayers and privacy during this difficult time."

Funeral arrangements have not been made at this time.  We will promptly relay the information once received.

"We are committed to supporting the needs of the Anderson family during their time of bereavement.  Our system family will remain prayerful," said Interim President, Kassie Freeman.
