Randale Scott, who serves as SGA president at Southern
University at Shreveport, was elected to serve as the 2010-11 student member on
the Southern University System Board of Supervisors and Demetrius Sumner,
Student Government Association president at SUBR, was recently elected to serve
as the student member on the Louisiana Board of Regents (BOR).
Scott, a sophomore business management major from Bossier
City, was elected to the one-year term on the SUS Board during the May 17
meeting of the Council of Student Body Presidents. While not engaged in his
studies, he enjoys lifting weights, bowling, watching movies, and preaching and
studying the word of God. Upon graduating from SUSLA, he plans to transfer to SUBR
to further his studies.
Scott said he is extremely excited about and humbled by the
opportunity to represent his peers on the Board of Supervisors.
Scott replaces Raushanah Hunter who was SULC Student Bar
Association president. Hunter received her juris doctor degree May 15.
Sumner was elected to serve on the BOR by the Louisiana
Council of Student Body Presidents. The council is comprised of student
government leaders from every public institution in the state.
"Today marks a new milestone for Southern University and all
of the students of Louisiana, ensuring that we are adequately represented
during these severe economic circumstances," said Sumner following his
election. His appointment will begin on June 1.
Sumner, a Dallas, Texas native, is a sophomore majoring in
political science who was elected 2010-2011 SGA president at SUBR in April.
