SUBR Chancellor Selected - Tuesday, May 03, 2011

James L. Llorens was selected as the next chancellor of the Southern University, Baton Rouge campus, Friday, April 29, 2011.
Llorens currently serves as the
assistant chief administrative officer for the Office of the
Mayor-President, City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge
where is responsible for a $33 million budget and a personal allocation
of approximately 500 employees. Llorens previously served as dean of
graduate studies, chair of the SUBR Political Science Department, and
associate professor of public administration on the Baton Rouge
campus. "Having worked in both state government and academia
Llorens has a clear understanding of what it takes to lead the Baton
Rouge campus," said Darren Mire, chairman of the SUS Board. "I am
certain that his proven track record as a successful administrator,
along with his experience in working with federal grants will propel the
Baton Rouge campus to greater heights." Llorens is a native of
Alexandria, Louisiana, and received his B.A. from Loyola University,
master of science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Ph.D.
from Louisiana State University. Llorens is the recipient of numerous
awards for his accomplishments such as a 1997-98 ACE Presidential Fellow
and the 1993 Teacher of the Year (awarded by the National Conference of
Black Political Scientist). He is married to Glenda Darensbourg and has
two children, Raya Moore and Jared Llorens, and one granddaughter,
Clare Victoria.
