About CETL: Mission, Goals and Methods

Mission: Focus on Teaching and Learning

The primary mission of the CETL is to support and promote programs and efforts that enhance teaching and learning experiences and to facilitate the continued professional development of faculty in their roles as teachers, researchers, scholars and learners.

CETL will provide leadership in developing and advancing a broad range of services and programs; providing resources and opportunities to assist faculty with their professional development as educators. It is committed to promoting institutional effectiveness through assessment and evaluation of pedagogical styles, instructional experiences, programs, and curricula. A primary interest of CETL is to integrate current and emerging technology in the delivery of instruction.

Seven goals were formulated by the CELT Planning Committee to guide its priorities and ongoing activities.

To foster the development of a system-wide learning community.

To empower faculty to excel professionally throughout their academic careers at Southern University.

To create and support student tutorial and mentoring services at the college or departmental levels.

To provide leadership and support on the use of technology for teaching and learning

To enhance and improve curricula and programs through continuous planning, assessment and evaluation of teaching and learning practices and trends.

To develop an award system for teaching excellence.

To establish/identify a physical structure to house the CETL with appropriate facilities, technology, staff and other essential supporting resources
