Welcome
 It
is with the greatest enthusiasm that I welcome you to the
Southern University System’s Center for Excellence in Teaching
and Learning! This Center was established to serve the faculty
and staff of the System’s five campuses, through programs
of instructional, curriculum and faculty professional development.
Great emphasis must be focused on faculty scholarship, excellence
in teaching and research efforts by exploring and implementing
innovative educational practices, creative use of technology,
and interdisciplinary collaboration.
We are
dedicated to support for advanced learning at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels. Students come to the university to
develop perspectives, attitudes, skills, knowledge and habits
of thought that contribute to their success in a complex
ever changing world. Among the important skills they need,
are those that make them increasingly adept in the analysis,
evaluation, and management of expanding technological and
other information. Other needs include a commitment to professional
practices guided by ethics and high standards. This Center
(CETL), is dedicated to providing opportunities for faculty,
emerging teachers and graduate assistants to reflect on
how best to help students achieve these purposes, how to
put into practice the chosen tools and strategies, and how
to assess their effectiveness.
Join
us in the search for “best practices” that move faculty
and students to new levels of thinking and effectiveness.
We expect you to share your insights, while participating
in building a Center that is a valuable resource for you
and for all your colleagues at this great Southern University
System.
