The foundational mission of any college or university includes the creation and transference of knowledge through research (knowledge creation) and teaching (knowledge transfer).  In addition to being central to the mission, these aims are central measurements by which institutions determine success.

Long regarded as a network of nurturing institutions committed to teaching students from diverse backgrounds with limited resources, the 21st Century Southern University and A & M College System equally values scholarship.  To that end, the faculties and administration of the Southern University and A & M College System have developed a strategic plan that promotes enhanced service to our students through faculty research and scholarship.  Faculty will continue to actively participate in intellectual and innovative interdisciplinary and disciplinary discourse nationally and internationally.
