 Hello and thank you for your interest in the Southern University and A & M College System (SUS) Office of Academic and Student Affairs. Through your interest in SUS, you will find the member institutions individually and collectively committed to individual empowerment through knowledge production and transference. During your tour of the website, it is our desire to present you with a comprehensive look at what we do at Southern and how we do it. We transfer knowledge through some of the leading minds and most dedicated scholars of our state and nation to students (traditional and nontraditional) from more than 40 states and 50 countries.
The Southern University System is a rare jewel in higher education in many ways. As the nation’s only historically black higher education system, it continues to provide opportunity to thousands of students who come from diverse backgrounds, but go on to lead and serve with distinction. Additionally, the member campuses are engaged in research and community participation that addresses some of our society’s greatest needs. Southern’s member campuses are committed to teaching each and every student enrolled. While this may seem like an oversimplification of what we do, I wish to share with you that Southern’s commitment is to each student who walks our grounds today, yesterday and tomorrow! We will employ best practices and make data-driven, culturally relevant decisions. Finally, the teacher-scholars and researchers who lead our classrooms and living/learning environments will provide a rich intellectual experience for each student.
Understanding that learning takes place both in the classroom and outside of the classroom, the Southern University family welcomes each prospective student and current student to fully engage the countless opportunities to achieve a unique educational experience provided at Southern. We invite you to march in our world renowned band, play varsity sports, or hold court as a campus queen. Additionally, you can test your mental agility on our national academic team, prepare to fight for the voiceless in our law clinics or learn cutting-edge agribusiness techniques. As you see, the opportunities for Southern students to express their personal identity and leadership are exponential. Our family is strong because each member brings a unique and special gift to it.
