Planning & Research Functional Areas

Strategic Planning

 The Office of  Planning and Research develops the Southern University System Strategic plan and ensures that each system campus uses it as the standard for  developing their individual campus plans.  This office is also responsible for monitoring the completion of  an Accountability Report Card by each campus. The Accountability Report Card is a companion document to the System’s Strategic Plan. For completion, it requires a self-assessment for each performance indicator in the plan using baseline data and establishing benchmarks for continuous improvement and communication.  When completed, it provides reference points for measuring and reporting future performance

Institutional Research

 This Office Coordinates and monitors System-wide data collection, and reports to the Southern University Board of Supervisors, the Board of Regents and other internal and external stakeholders. It provides guidance for data collections, definition, preparation, use, reporting and transmittal to all SU System internal and external audiences (examples of important data reports are IPEDS and LaPAS reports required by the Louisiana Board of Regents).  It prepares management information data reports, graphs and charts about System characteristics as needed by the System President, Office of the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and other System administration.                                                 

Concomitant with these obligations, it provides leadership for the Advisory Council for Planning and Institutional Research and serves as a liaison between the SU System's Office and the campuses regarding all planning and institutional research matters.   Using the deliberations of this system-wide Council, it communicates to the SU System, through the Office of the  President,  and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, the views and concerns of data custodians, data reporting personnel, and Chief Academic Officers about system-wide data management policies and practices.

Technology Use and Applications

 This office leads the effort to rationalize the selection and use of technology throughout the system for instruction and instructional support. It provides logistical support for the Banner implementation committee and leads the task of assessing the instructional technology needs of the entire system.

Center for Excellence In teaching and learning

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), supports faculty who wish to refine traditional and sound emerging pedagogical styles and integrate advanced technology into pedagogical delivery. It is committed to promoting institutional effectiveness through assessment and evaluation of pedagogical styles, instructional experiences, programs, and curricula.  This center will provide faculty development seminars, workshops, conferences and awards dedicated to teaching and learning effectiveness.
