SU Sociology receives grant to host abstinence program for teens
Southern University’s Department of Sociology has received a $253,478 grant from the Louisiana Department of Social Services to host Empowering Youth Choices: Southern University’s Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program. The program will run from June 4 until July 31 on the campus of Southern University.
EYCSUTPPP will consist of a comprehensive eight-week program that will encourage teens to avoid risky behavior and reduce the numbers of adolescents who engage in premarital sexual activity, including, but not limited to sexual intercourse, reduce the incidence of out-of-wedlock pregnancies among adolescents and reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases among adolescents. The program also will enhance their academic skills, strengthen their self-esteem, interpersonal and decision-making skills and provide educational/recreational activities.
