Baton Rouge campus confers 300 diplomas in summer graduation

Southern University held its summer 2007 commencement ceremony Friday at the Felton G. Clark Activity Center on the Baton Rouge campus.  At the top of the 300 graduates was Brandi Deggins of Baton Rouge. She now has a degree in biology and is in the process of applying to medical school.

Adm. Michael Mullen, newly appointed chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, delivered the keynote address. He is the 28th Chief of Naval Operations and is scheduled to take over as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on September 30.

Prior to Mullen’s current appointment, he served as the 32nd Vice Chief of Naval Operations, commander of three ships: the USS Noxubee; the USS Goldsborough; the USS Yorktown; as well as commander of theCruiser-Destroyer Group Two, the George Washington Battle Group, the U.S. 2nd Fleet/NATO Striking Fleet Atlantic and the NATO Joint Force Command Naples/Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe.
