The Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus’ presented Southern University with a $50,000 contribution to establish a public service institute designed to train current and potential public and elected officials as well as provide research on policy issues.
The funding came from the group’s 30th Anniversary Gala that was held in late May at the Holiday Inn Select, Baton Rouge. The institute will be a part of the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs.
Southern University System President Ralph Slaughter acknowledged both the contribution and the potential it represents. “This is a great day for Southern University and the Black Caucus,” he said. “We have had a long relationship working together to help the people of the state and we will continue to work hard through the establishment of the public service institute.”
Nearly 1000 guests and Caucus members were joined by founding members, elected officials, and supporters from throughout the state. |
