President's Cup competition enters second year

The second annual President’s Cup 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk/Run is slated for Saturday, October 27.

“The President’s Cup brings a family-wellness component to the diverse activities found on the Baton Rouge campus’ fall calendar” said Melanie Rey, 1st place winner in the 25-34 age category in the first walk/run held last fall. Rey says she plans to retain her spot.

Ernie Hughes, executive director of the Southern University System Foundation which sponsors the event, says the President’s Cup was created to advance the vision of academic excellence while fostering a greater sense of accountability from Louisiana’s economic base. “The campuses require faculty who are committed to improving their knowledge base continuously and that can only be achieved through continued research and professional development,” Hughes said. “As they grow, our students blossom too.”
