Joseph Meyinsee, chairman of the Department of Mathematics, Southern University, Baton Rouge, and Nathaniel Manning, assistant professor, business management, Southern University, Shreveport, were among 10 2007 National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) NOBLE Prize Laureates. The awards were presented in Washington, D.C., in mid-March during the NAFEO Gala Awards Banquet at the NAFEO 32nd National Conference on Blacks in Higher Education.
Meyinesse received the award for his unparalleled work with contemporary issues in mathematics education and technology.
Manning’s selection was based upon his outstanding contribution to his students in the classroom, his role as a Faculty Research Fellow sponsored by SUSLA’s Office of Academic Affairs. NAFEO was founded in 1969 by a group of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) presidents as the professional association of the presidents and chancellors of the group. It represents approximately 400,000 students and their families and African Americans across the higher education spectrum. NAFEO member institutions are public and private, two- and four-year, community, regional, national and international comprehensive research institutions, located in 25 states, the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, and Brazil. |
