Southern kicks off United Way campaign with luncheon

Southern University geared up for their 2007 Capital Area United Way (CAUW) Campus Campaign with a Coordinators Luncheon held on June 14 in the Magnolia Room of the Mayberry Dining Hall on the University’s campus.
Mayo Brew, Sr., SU Campaign Chairman presided over the program and a prayer was given by Campaign Treasurer LaKeeshia D. Giddens. Umeca Briscoe, United Way Interim Vice President for Campaigns, serviced as the guest speaker for the luncheon. Keila Burnett, a United Way Campaign Associate, spoke about the importance of the CAUW and remarks were provided by Southern University Interim Chancellor Margaret S. Ambrose.
Burnett also provided an overview of the CAUW during the Coordinator and Solicitor Training program held June 21 at the Southern University School of Nursing Auditorium. Patty Rives from the Crisis Intervention Center, an organization that receives funds from the CAUW, spoke about the agency and how it has helped to prevent suicides in the Baton Rouge area. Kim Peairs, CAUW Marketing Associate was also present and spoke about the United Way’s key initiatives and introduced CAUW’s new website.
Southern’s employees not only conduct an annual campaign, but they and their families volunteer with the United Way Agencies that serve Greater Baton Rouge.
All funds raised will be donated to the CAUW.
