Devona Dixon, SU Ag Center research
associate in textile technology recently traveled
to London, England and Paris, France for a group European
Study Tour. Dixon's group spent 12 days in Europe
with five students (Davielle Chandler, Olyvhia Essien,
Chermise Etienne, Courtney Sanford, and Ashely Weaver)
and three faculty and staff from the Division of Family
and Consumer Sciences in the College of Agricultural,
Family and Consumer Sciences.
The staff members were Doze Butler, team leader, associate dean College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences (textiles and apparel merchandising); Pecola Scott, adjunct professor, textiles and apparel merchandising; Eva Fields, program leader, child development; and Bridget Udoh, communications specialist.
The tour was in collaboration with North Carolina A&T University and University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. The Southern University component was organized by Doze Butler, associate dean, College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences.
Dixon participated in professional development including international travel and learning experience.
Both London and Paris are major fashion capitals. Several leading designers, design houses, and well-known producers are located in the cities visited. There are also numerous historic textiles and costume museums that have preserved garments from centuries past that were the forerunner of early American fashions which originated in Europe.
