SUSLA launches GED and after-school programs at community center

The Youth NetWORK Initiative (YNI) Program in the SUSLA Department of Community Outreach Programs received a $25,000 grant from the Shreveport Bossier Community Foundation to expand its tutoring program to help teens and young adults earn a high school diploma or a GED.

YNI is an after-school, post high school tutoring, mentoring, leadership, and job readiness program for youth between the ages of 14 and 21 which began operation in the fall of 2004. YNI currently offers an after school program and a summer school program held at David Raines Community Center as well as allows participants to attend GED preparation classes or A+ Certification.

Targeted participants for the additional funding is for youth ages 14-25 that are seeking a high school alternative, pregnant, or parenting or in need of seeking LEAP/GEE preparation and live in the Allendale, Lakeside or Queensborough communities.
