SUSLA, MLK group host scholarship program as 'testament to dream'
Sam Jenkins, chairman of the Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation and Southern University, Shreveport hosted the 27th annual scholarship program earlier this month in observance of the slain leader's birthday. The observance's theme was "A Testament to the Dream."
The foundation awarded a scholarship to Shreveport native Lee Daniel Griggs, a freshman at Xavier University in New Orleans.
The event also featured St. Gabriel Mayor George Grace, president of the National Conference of Black Mayors, as the keynote speaker.
"When we decided who we wanted to award scholarships to and when we started talking about testaments to the dream, we didn't have to look no further than Lee Daniel Griggs and George Grace," Sam Jenkins said during the program.
