Mary E. Joseph

Research by Mary E. Joseph, with the Southern University Family Life Center, has been published in the national publication, Diverse Approaches to Family and Community Violence Prevention: A National Perspective. The publication provides strategies designed to empower students and their families who are at-risk for violence.

Joseph's research paper, "The Impact of a Violence Prevention Program on At-Risk Youth Academic Achievement: A Three Year Assessment," examines the relationship between academic performance and youth violence.

The paper evaluates Southern University's Family and Community Violence Prevention Program effectiveness in decreasing violence at home, school and community through academic and personal development, family bonding and strengthening, cultural and recreational enrichment and career development.

The book, published recently by The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., is comprised of case studies from 18 Family Life Center prevention programs designed to meet the psychological, social, educational, cultural and career needs of at-risk students and families.
