The 65th Annual Southern University State Livestock and Poultry Show will be held February 28 through March 1 at the Ag Center’s Maurice a. Edmond Livestock Arena. “The Livestock Show is a time-honored tradition that carries a legacy of providing an opportunity for youth to exhibit their prize livestock and develop responsibility and leadership skills,” said Renita Marshall, livestock show director.

Southern University has upheld this tradition since 1943 and it provides an opportunity for youth throughout the state to gain knowledge and skills.

The show, in conjunction with other related Ag Center programming, has taught youth about leadership, character development and entrepreneurship. Throughout the year, youth prepare by attending educational activities and programs which culminate with the livestock show.

Marshall, a veterinarian, joined the staff of the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center in 2007 as an assistant professor of animal science and livestock show director. She provides leadership to design and implement programming pertaining to beef cattle production and collaborates with projects involving other species.
