Ag Center farm superintendent retires after 35 years of services to SU
Southern University Ag Center’s farm superintendent Herman Langley retired last December following 35 years of service.
Langley, born and raised in Baton Rouge, graduated from Southern University with a degree in animal science. Langley was then drafted into the U.S. Army and after three years of active duty, returned to Southern University to become a staff member of the Social Work Department in 1972.
Seven years later, he joined the College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences, working in the Dairy Farm for six years, later becoming assistant farm superintendent until 1989. After a year of interim work as farm superintendent, he was promoted to the position of farm superintendent in 1990.
Throughout his career, he applied a combination of research and academic experiences to a variety of consultancies for different areas of his profession. Langley has received numerous service awards, quality service awards, and outstanding service awards.
