SUSLA Founder's Day follows theme of institutional, individual development

Southern University, Shreveport Chancellor Ray Belton introduces Founder's Day speaker Ivory Nelson, president of Lincoln University of rhe Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Southern University, Shreveport continued system-wide emphasis on drawing, keeping and conferring during its annual Founder's Day Celebration on March 11.

The Southern University System common theme for 2008 was "Southern University: Sustaining Its Commitment to Recruit, Retain and Graduate. The keynote speaker for the occasion was Ivory V. Nelson, president of Lincoln University of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Nelson is a former SUSLA faculty member and a magna cum laude graduate of Grambling State University. He has maintained an active community-involvement track record in his 30-plus years in higher education.

Southern University celebrates Founders' Day each year to honor and pay homage to its forefathers and those individuals who have played a significant and prominent role in the overall triumph and historical legacy of the institution. The program then enables SUSLA to salute those endowed leaders who have rendered service to the Shreveport community over the more than four decades.

During the Founders' Day program, staff and faculty members having 10, 20, 30, and 40 years of service also are recognized.
