Jaguar football enjoys ranking, early winning streak
The Southern Jaguars shot out of the 2007 gridiron gate like a rocket winning its first five games and a spot among nationally-ranked football squads.
September was a golden month for the Jaguars who scored solid victories over Florida A & M, Mississippi Valley, Prairie View, Tennessee State, and Alabama State. The then-undefeated Jaguars returned to The Sports Network's top 25 Poll of Football Championship Subdivision teams for the first time since December 2004.
The Jaguars were ranked 25th until a heart-breaking loss to Alabama A & M in early October. The last time they played a game as a ranked team was when they were 20th in December 2004 before falling to Alabama State in the SWAC Championship Game.
After the five-game opening streak, the Jaguars netted two wins and three losses before a bye to prepare to meet Grambling State University in the 34th State Farm Bayou Classic.
