Southern awarded a $6.2 million grant

Southern University and A & M College has been awarded a $6.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education for the 2007-2008 school semesters.

The grant, from the federal Title III program will fund 15 departments on the Baton Rouge campus including the Schools of Nursing and Architecture, Colleges of Business and Education, Departments of Mass Communications and Foreign Languages.

Southern applied for the grant in May and will receive the award on October 1.

The Title III program is administered at Southern by Program Coordinator Dr. Kathryn Jordan and Executive Associate to the Coordinator/Budget Manager Rose Hunte.

"The grant money will be used for the continuous growth of Southern's academic departments," Hunte said.
