Coordinator for Student Programs and Activities
Job Description:
This position is responsible for the assisting the management of the Student Union which is a comprehensive department that provides an array of facilities and services in support of the University’s mission. The Coordinator of Student Programs/Activities provides evening/weekend management of the Student Union facility, ensuring a high level of customer service, active supervision, as well as skilled and proactive technical support. This role manages daily operations of the Student Union Recreation areas, bowling alley, supervises student staff and ensures facility security and emergency operations when needed.
Reporting to the Director of the Student Union, The Coordinator of Student Programs/Activities coordinates with other Union professional staff to maintain continuity/consistency of Union services and operations; engage in pre-event planning, providing guidance and direction to users; provide and facilitate event support including audio-visual, technical, and event furniture set-up for Union users; assist with event crowd management; monitor services, safety, and security of Union; identify and resolve immediate operation issues within the facility; diffuse difficult situations with creative problem solving, making exceptions to policies/practices/procedures when appropriate; clear and secure the Student Union at closing, ensuring all facility spaces are locked; and analyze, enforce, and make recommendations regarding building policies and procedures. The Coordinator of Student Programs/Activities manages Student Union services, such as the bowling alley, including game room/programming space (billiards, table tennis, gaming consoles, etc.) and tournament gaming. The role maintains recreation inventory, manages the EMS system, provides daily oversight of student workers. This management position schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates student event support staff and student managers performing all duty functions.

- Ability to exercise good judgment, handle different situations with confidence and leadership, and be flexible;
- Knowledge of facility and event management;
- Knowledge of PC and MAC operating systems, and Microsoft Office suite;
- Knowledge of the role of, trends, and best practices related to student union operations, facility management, event management;
- Knowledge of event management software;
- Knowledge of audio consoles and systems, and/or theatrical lighting boards and systems;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including strong oral, written, and listening communication capabilities.
- Handle special projects as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Minimal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g. student personnel, higher education, public administration) , or a related field; student programming and community service experience in a university or college setting - student affairs, facility and/or event management experience in a student union/university center.
