Virtual Reality (VR) Technician

This position is Part-time. 

Job Description:

Southern University and A&M College (SU), in collaboration with Alcorn State University [ASU), Louisiana Tech University (LATECH), and BetaFlix are collaborating to establish a pilot program and form a K-12 workforce pipeline to engage middle school teacher candidates and clinical educators, University faculty and students, and interactive Virtual Reality [VR) spaces and tools in innovative instructional efforts and workforce training. The part-time VR Technicians will be responsible for programming and creating courseware for use in the mobile CAVE Environment. VR Techs will also lead the training of the SURADD project team on the intricacies of VR technology [train­ the-trainer) and will aid in any technical difficulties during SURADD hosted workshops. Specifically, the VR Techs will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities: 1) Create user content in Unity Pro and Get Real for use in middle school lessons; 2) Lead the efforts in VR training for use of mobile CAVE Environment; 3) Train teacher candidates and clinical educators in the use of the VR environments; 4) Coordinate tech vendors and implement technology workshops focused on VR for the community, 5) Work closely with the SURADD Post-Doctoral Researcher to ensure educator training is being accomplished; and 6) Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the project leaders [co-principle investigators).

Minimal Qualifications:

  1. An earned Masters in Computer Science or a closely related STEM field from an accredited institution
  2. At least of three years of STEM teaching/training/workingexperience, VR certification a plus
  3. A strong background in mathematics
  4. Knowledge of Unity Pro, Get Real, C, C+, C++ and other programming languages
  5. Knowledge of workforce needs in digital skills building
  6. Basic knowledge of VR and broadband accessible/IT gateways
  7. Knowledge of basic computer software and hardware
