Financial Aid Counselor

Job Description:

The Financial Aid Counselor is responsible for receiving, evaluating, and verifying student data to award federal, state, institutional, and outside financial aid funds.

Financial Aid Counselors are responsible for counseling students on matters of financial aid eligibility, and for providing necessary information regarding student financial assistance programs to various constituencies.

Answers inquiries from faculty and staff on an array of financial aid policies and procedures.

Participates in orientation sessions and attends college fairs, community programs, open houses for the purpose of providing financial aid information to new and prospective students.

Reviews financial aid application materials, including the FAFSA, parent information, tax documentation and any other required application information.

Corresponds with students to request additional documentation and reconcile conflicting information pursuant to the federal guidelines.

Minimal Qualifications:

 Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: One year of professional experience in higher education, accounting, business, or customer service.  A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience

Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-pace deadline driven environment.

Strong written communication skills.

Superior customer service skills.
