SUBR | (School of Education) Assistant Professor – STEM Education | Position: Full-Time | Salary: $65,000 | Deadline: December 19, 2025

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Professor in STEM Education is a dynamic scholar-practitioner committed to excellence in teaching, research, recruitment, and service who will contribute to the preparation of highly qualified educators and leaders in STEM fields. The successful candidate will engage in undergraduate and graduate instruction, research and scholarly activity, and service that includes actively recruiting and supporting students in STEM teacher preparation pathways, while contributing to program development and partnerships that strengthen the educator pipeline. This is a tenure-track assistant professor in a STEM education position.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in STEM education (science, mathematics, technology integration, and related pedagogy). Supervise and mentor teacher candidates in clinical field experiences and residency placements. Advise undergraduate and graduate students in STEM education pathways. Integrate innovative instructional strategies and technologies that promote active learning and equity in STEM.
  • Establish and maintain a research agenda in STEM education aligned with departmental and institutional priorities. Seek external funding to support research, program development, and student opportunities. Present research findings at professional conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Contributes to interdisciplinary research and collaboration across STEM and education fields.
  • Provide service to the department, the School of Education, the university, and the profession. Participate in accreditation activities (CAEP, LDOE, SACSCOC) and curriculum development. Actively engage in recruitment of prospective STEM teacher candidates at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Build partnerships with K–12 schools, districts, and community organizations to strengthen the STEM educator pipeline.
  • Perform additional responsibilities in support of departmental and School of Education goals.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in STEM Education, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Curriculum & Instruction with a STEM emphasis, or a closely related field (ABD considered if degree will be completed by the time of appointment).
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research in STEM education. Evidence of effective teaching at the K–12 and/or higher education level. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) Experience with teacher preparation, residency programs, and/or clinical supervision. Record of or potential for securing external funding. Familiarity with accreditation standards (CAEP, LDOE) and program assessment. Experience working with diverse populations.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience.

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Must hold a teaching certificate in a STEM discipline. Evidence of effective teaching at the K–12 and/or higher education level, and can integrate technology and digital tools in STEM instruction.
