SUAREC | Postdoctoral Research Associate | Position: Full-Time Unclassified | Salary Range: $47,000 - $50,000 | Application Deadline: March 12, 2026

 

Job Description:

A 12-month postdoctoral research associate position is required to work on a grant-funded project. The postdoctoral candidate will assist the PI to implement the project objectives. The postdoc will be responsible for day-to-day lab and field activities relevant to fungal species causing ripe rot and botrytis bunch rot in grapes. The postdoc will isolate and identify the pathogen from the field and perform phenotyping and genotyping studies to identify the level of tolerance in different grape species. The postdoctoral candidate will also assist the PI in testing different metabolites for disease tolerance and assist the PI in the preparation of reports and manuscripts.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare plant materials, manage experiments in the lab and field for determining the plant response to fungus
  • Identify metabolites in response to plant bio-stimulants.
  • Conduct field trials and laboratory experiments, collecting data on crop yield, and plant performance
  • Lays out research plots, labels treatments for plants, and assists with experimental design.
  • Visit different vineyards in state and out of state for sample collection and characterization of fungal species causing grey mold and ripe rot in plants.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree
  • Ph.D. in Microbiology
  • Three or more years of experience
  • Specific experience: Plant microbial interaction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree
  • Ph.D. in Microbiology/Life Sciences
  • Five or more years of experience
