Project Coordinator 2-GREEN LAB

Job Description:

A project Coordinator is needed for the Subproject 3 of the GREEN LAB project at Southern University. This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $54,000 from the GREEN LAB project that is funded by the USDA Forest Service. 

Overseeing the implementation of leadership workshops, technical training, and career skill-building programs. Manage the Content Creation and Communication Lab, ensuring students produce high-quality digital content to promote environmental awareness and engagement. Act as the primary liaison between Southern University, industry partners, high schools, and community organizations to ensure seamless collaboration. Increase awareness and enrollment in Southern University’s Urban Forestry and Natural Resource bachelor’s degree program by implementing targeted outreach and recruitment efforts. Track and analyze program metrics and ensure compliance with grant requirements.       

Competencies 

Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple objectives simultaneously. Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to stakeholders and program goals. Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities to engage diverse stakeholders, including students, educators, community leaders, and industry partners. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management tools, Adobe Creative Suits, and virtual event platforms. Knowledge of urban forestry, environmental sustainability, and career pathways in natural resources.                                                                                               

Work Environment

Office Setting – The majority of work will be performed in an office environment with standard equipment such as a computer, phone, and printer. Outdoor Fieldwork – Frequent site visits and hands-on training activities in urban forestry areas, parks, and community spaces. Classroom & Workshop Spaces – Coordinating and attending training sessions, professional development workshops, and student engagement events. Virtual & Hybrid Work – Some meetings, coordination efforts, and training sessions may be conducted remotely. Travel Requirements – Periodic travel within Louisiana and across the U.S. for program-related activities, conferences, and student experiences.                                    

Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Frequent outdoor activities in urban forests, community sites, and training locations, which may involve walking on uneven terrain and exposure to various weather conditions. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, including equipment for workshops, training sessions, and events.                            

Work hours

This is a full-time, salaried position (40 hours per week). Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with occasional evenings and weekends required for events, training sessions, or travel. Some in-state and out-of-state travel may be necessary for site visits, leadership programs, conferences, and partner meetings.                 

 Minimal Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) in Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Education, Mass Communication, or a related field. 3+ years of experience in project coordination, workforce development, education programming, or environmental initiatives. Experience working with high schools, universities, community organizations, or workforce development programs is highly desirable.
