College of Business | Position: Unclassified Full Time (12 Month Faculty & Chair) | Salary: $140,000 - $147,000 | Application Deadline: May 1, 2026
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Department Chairperson is a full-time, twelve-month (12-month) faculty appointment with administrative responsibilities. The Department Chairperson reports to the College Dean/School Director and is responsible for the academic, administrative, fiscal, and strategic affairs of the department in accordance with the University's policies and procedures. The Department Chairperson carries a teaching load of one (1) course per semester. The summer term is devoted exclusively to administrative duties and responsibilities. The Department Chairperson is under the supervision of the Dean.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
- Plan and coordinates departmental teaching, research, and service functions in collaboration with Program Leader(s)
- Coordinates and involves faculty and Program Leader(s) in strategic planning, program review, assessment, and accreditation activities.
- Collaborates with Program Leader(s) and faculty to develop the department's niche and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinates student recruitment, advisement, mentoring, retention, internships, and career placement.
- Encourages professional growth and maintains faculty morale.
- Provides overall leadership for departmental faculty, staff, and students.
External Resources:
- Collaborates with college leadership and faculty to generate external resources and donor support.
- Encourages faculty participation in grant development and sponsored research opportunities.
Teaching:
- Maintains oversight of instructional quality and academic excellence.
- Leads instructional improvement and program development initiatives.
- Oversees learning outcomes assessment and accreditation compliance.
- Conducts annual faculty reviews, evaluations, and workload assessments.
- Appoints the Retention, Tenure, and Promotion Committee.
- Ensures faculty compliance with Faculty Handbook teaching responsibilities.
- 7. Ensures faculty awareness of University's instructional policies.
- 8. Supports mentoring of junior faculty.
- 9. Evaluates faculty for tenure and promotion.
Curriculum Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation:
- Coordinates curriculum planning and accreditation activities
- Assigns teaching responsibilities in accordance with University's policy
- Ensures curriculum currency and continuous improvement.
- Prepares and submits institutional reports
- Oversees use of departmental property and resources
Research:
- Coordinates and promotes departmental research activities.
- Clarifies scholarly expectations and supports junior faculty
- Encourages participation in sponsored research and grants
- Promotes awareness of institutional research resources.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Coordinates faculty recruitment, hiring, and retention.
Supervises Program Leader(s):
- Oversee adjunct faculty hiring and evaluation.
- Addresses faculty, staff, and student concerns.
- Prepares and manages departmental budgets.
- Assigns and oversees facilities and space usage.
- Maintains departmental records and reports.
- Conducts regular departmental meetings.
- Provides faculty orientation and professional development.
- Performs additional administrative duties as assigned.
Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and/or Chancellor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Risk Management and Insurance, or a closely related field.
- Rank of Associate Professor or higher with tenure, unless otherwise permitted by policy.
- Demonstrated administrative or leadership experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated collaboration and leadership abilities.
- Evidence of scholarly activity.
