Movie director and producer John Singleton, who rocketed to national attention with his first movie "Boyz n the Hood," will speak at Southern University Baton Rouge at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013,

in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union.

With 119,636 votes cast, Southern University's M-9 student cheering section claims 16th place to advance to the second round of voting in the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award. Fans and supporters also helped the popular cheering section place at the top among the SWAC schools participating in the contest.
