Post-Doctoral Research Associate
Job Description:
The position is a 12-month appointment with the Southern Institute for Medicinal Plants (SIMP). The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director of SIMP. The Postdoctoral Research Associate position requires a high level of independence with the chosen applicant being expected to conduct field/greenhouse/laboratory studies, process, and analyze large data sets, including but not limited to, designing and executing experiments to evaluate various aspects of medicinal plant growth (related to genetic, environmental and management factors) and (plant breeding). Will also be responsible for utilizing analytical techniques such as plant metabolomics and molecular biology. The ability to assist graduate and undergraduate students is required. The successful candidate is expected to prepare and publish high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals, contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and seek funding opportunities to support ongoing research, and present research findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars. Additional duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple research activities, attention to detail, ability to maintain high quality records and documentation.
- Ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting equipment and field supplies up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer and standing
- Must possess a Ph.D. in Plant Sciences, Horticulture, Agronomy, Natural Resources or related field
- Candidates must have at least 3 years of field and greenhouse research experience working with medicinal plants and engaged in community service activities related to agriculture
