Research Assistant

This position is located at the Beef Cattle Research Institute. 

Job Description:

This is a full-time, 12-month appointment with the Southern University Agricultural Research Center, and specifically with the Beef Cattle Research Institute.

Assist Director of Beef Research Institute in developing studies, collecting data, analyzing and helping interpret collected data. Position will closely oversee all animal health protocols and closely observe health status of beef cattle frequently. Position will develop needed health checks, vaccines, health care protocols, and particularly, closely observe and attend cows at calving and young calves from birth to weaning. Position answers to Beef Director, with some travel required. Position to assist in off-campus research, data collection, sample harvest and sample preparation, as well as other duties as assigned.

Minimal Qualifications:

1). B.S. from an accredited University in an Agricultural Science with livestock experience, or 2) an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a veterinary clinic with extensive experience in animal health and well-being. Must have relevant experience in animal agriculture and management, detailed note-taking/ data collection skills. Must be willing to travel and conduct outside work activities. Must have excellent communication skills, writing skills, and data collection skills.
